11th annual event is regions largest public art celebrations

Painters, photographers, potters, jewelers, sculptors, weavers and more have been brushing, snapping, bending, pounding and molding works of art in anticipation of the annual Gresham Art Walk, one of the region’s largest public arts celebrations.

More than 140 juried artisans will fill the streets of historic downtown Gresham to showcase their artwork during the 11th Gresham Art Walk from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 21.

The family event is free and includes art for sale, live music all day, cultural performances, free children’s arts and crafts, and opportunities to visit shops and restaurants.

“The Art Walk is all about bringing art to people of all ages, and our talented lineup of artisans and cultural performers always come with their best ‘wow factor,’” says Judy Han, Gresham Art Walk Committee chairwoman.

Art for sale includes pottery, photography, beadwork, watercolors, textiles, glass, wood, oil paintings, garden art and recycled art. Visitors also will get to meet the artists behind the work.

Gresham’s annual event is building buzz among regional artists as one of the best for its great attendance and art-loving patrons.

“I come back to the Gresham Art Walk every year because it’s one of the most fun shows we do,” says sign artist Lis Dymond of Dymond Graphics in West Linn. “The customers are the best there are and come back year after year to see us.”

Acts to perform

Live music from jazz and blues to rock ‘n’ roll and country will be performed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. all along Main Avenue. And if you play piano, a baby grand piano on Second Street awaits guests to jump in and tickle the ivories.

History

In 2001, Han and other volunteers hosted the first Art Walk, in which 28 artists participated. The nonprofit Gresham Art Walk Committee works year-round to produce the event to celebrate art.
