Alan Stephen Lajimodiere

Sept. 29, 1947-Nov. 20, 2012

Eagle Creek resident Alan Lajimodiere died Tuesday, Nov. 20. He was 65.

A graveside service with honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Willamette National Cemetery.

Alan was born Sept. 29, 1947, in Belcourt, N.D., to Leo Joseph and Lola Lajimodiere. He joined the Marines in 1964 and served honorably during the Vietnam War.

Alan worked for an ambulance company, then became a union carpenter for 18 years. He worked as a construction inspector, retiring as chief inspector for the city of Gresham in 2009.

Alan enjoyed classic cars and studying history. He was a life member and past commander of the Sandy VFW Post 4273.

Survivors include his wife, Leora Lajimodiere; children, Michelle and Ben Lajimodiere; step-children, Karen Riley and Greg Ogilvie; sisters, Denise and Leola Lajimodiere; and 10 grandchildren.

The family suggests contributions to Team Rubicon Region 10.

Wanda Elaine (Yates) Schacher

July 3, 1920-Nov. 12, 2012

Longtime Portland-area resident Wanda Elaine (Yates) Schacher died Monday, Nov. 12. She was 92.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 2310 S.E. 148th Ave., Portland.

Wanda was born July 3, 1920, to Walter and Irene Yates. She graduated from Girls’ Polytechnic School in 1938.

Wanda married Leo F. Schacher in 1940 in Portland. She was employed as a waitress, seamstress and Avon representative. The couple had two daughters.

Wanda sewed dozens of shirts for her grandsons and made a quilt for each of her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sisters, Betty Ware and Barbara Richmond; daughters, Carol Petteys and Pam Dukart; six grandsons; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Donations in Wanda’s name may be made to the American Heart Association.

Jennifer Mary Little

Sept. 12, 1942-Nov. 19, 2012

Gresham resident Jennifer Mary Little died Monday, Nov. 19. She was 70.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd.

Jennifer was born Sept. 12, 1942, in Colchester, Essex, England, to Charles and Mary (Bennett) Reeve. She married Ronald Little on Jan. 16, 1963, in Braintree, England.

The couple and their young children moved around in the 1960s when Ronald was deployed to Vietnam. They eventually moved to the Portland area.

Jennifer worked for Cornett dime store as a clerk, as a nurse’s aide and for Dunkin’ Donuts. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, flowers, nature and caring for the family of raccoons in her back yard.

She is survived by her daughter, Kristie; and her sisters, Ann Trott and Susan Riley. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Nadine Frances (Smith) Bolin Rice Anderson

Aug. 7 1919-Nov. 2, 2012

Gresham resident Nadine Frances (Smith) Bolin Rice Anderson died Friday, Nov. 2. She was 93.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Mt. Scott Church of God, 10603 S.E. Henderson St., Portland.

Nadine was born Aug. 7, 1919, in Rush Springs, Okla., to Roy and Ethel Smith. She had resided in Gresham since 1995.

Nadine played the accordion, piano and organ for more than 74 years in The Church of God in Oklahoma, Alabama, Montana, Washington and Oregon. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting and table games.

She is survived by her son, Max Bolin; daughters, Elaine Druse and Lynetta Allenbrand; stepsons, Gene Rice and Armond Anderson; brothers, Eugene Smith and Raymond Smith; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Franciska “Frances” Thayer

Aug. 26, 1928-Nov. 14, 2012

Gresham resident Franciska “Frances” Thayer died Wednesday, Nov. 14. She was 84.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Gresham Memorial Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave., Gresham. Interment was held at Willamette National Cemetery.

Frances was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Gilching, Germany, the daughter of Valentine and Natalia (Anton) Furbacher.

Frances was raised and educated in Germany. In 1950 she married Walter Thayer, an American soldier stationed in Germany.

Frances worked for Electronic Specialties on the assembly line, retiring in 1990.

Her husband preceded her in death in 2004.

She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Beijer and Mary Bell; sister, Maria Schaefer; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family suggests contributions to the Arthritis Foundation.

Wynona Dorothy (Evans) Hughes

March 23, 1917-Nov. 26, 2012

Wynona Dorothy (Evans) Hughes of Gresham died Wednesday, Nov. 21. She was 95.

A service was held Nov. 26.

Wynona was born March 23, 1917, in Thompson, Iowa, to Manford Carl and Johanna Theodora (Thorson) Evans.

Wynona was educated in Sherburn, Minn., and in Portland. She married Arthur Bemis Hughes on April 12, 1936, in Portland. She was a homemaker and member of Central Bible Church in Portland.

Wynona is survived by sons, Roger Hughes and Thomas Hughes; and granddaughter, Joyce Hughes.

Survivors include his wife Inez, three daughters; Ana Maria (Tim) Sommerville, Sandra (Finn Erik) Edvardsen, Rosi (Jeff) Gray, and four grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, Andy, and Sam. Jean Lucille Kerslake-Rhodes

(b. July 18th, 1933 - d. November 19th, 2012)

peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family. She fought a courageous battle with breast cancer for 5 years and lived life fully.

Jean was born and raised in Springdale, OR into the east county pioneering family of Robert & Alice Kerslake. Jean dedicated her life to family, living the creed; “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”. She worked 17 years as a cook at the Corbett School Dist. and loved being involved with the community families through her work at the school.

At home she loved quilting and making needle point decorated greeting cards, which she gave to family and friends.

Jean is survived by her husband of 61 yrs, James, of Corbett; son’s Mike (Holly) Rhodes of Milwaukie; John (Jeannea) Rhodes of Arroyo Grande, CA; grandson’s Thomas (Julie) Rhodes of Corbett; David Rhodes of Santa Barbara, CA; Jason Mars of Corbett; brothers Harold, Richard, John (Mitzie) Kerslake of Springdale.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Corbett Community Church on Saturday, Dec 1st at 11AM.
