Barbara Ann Wood-McKee

March 15, 1941-April 4, 2013

Former Gresham resident Barbara Ann Wood-McKee died Thursday, April 4, in Carson, Wash. She was 72.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Gresham Memorial Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave.

Barbara was born March 15, 1941, in Eugene to Irvin and Georgia (Keen) Boylan. She was raised and educated in Springfield, graduating from Springfield High School in 1959. 

Barbara was president and CEO of Herron Lakes Golf Course, retiring in 2007. On Sept. 15, 2007, she married Albert McKee in South Tahoe, Nev.

Barbara is survived by her husband; children, Gregory Franklin of Springfield, Cynthia Cooper of Holland, Texas, Mike McKee of Lynden, Wash., Craig McKee of Stevenson, Wash., Lee Anne Shaw of Stevenson and Troy Wood of Milwaukie; sister, Vicki Swanson of Eugene; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Gresham Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Arland Hugh Christ

Aug. 24, 1971-April 13, 2013

Troutdale resident Arland Hugh Christ died Saturday, April 13, from congestive heart failure. He was 41.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 26, at East Hill Foursquare Church, 50 N.W. Fifth St., Gresham.

Arland was born Aug. 24, 1971, in Portland to Arland Howard and Judy Perkins. He attended Gresham High School and was a member of East Hill Foursquare Church.

Arland married Kathleen Byrne on Aug. 14, 2010, in Gresham.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Johnathan, Jordan and Nathan; stepchildren, Jewlz and Jaden; and mother, Judy.

Gresham Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Marguerite Elaine Smith

Dec. 9, 1925-April 11, 2013

Longtime Gresham resident Marguerite Elaine Smith died Thursday, April 11, at a local facility for Alzheimer’s patients. She was 87.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 19.

Marguerite was born Dec. 9, 1925, in Troy, Idaho, to Carrie (Allen) Emmett. Her father, Everett, was killed in a logging accident more than eight months before her birth.

Following her mother’s remarriage in 1929, the family moved to Clatskanie, where Marguerite attended Swedetown Grade School. She graduated from Clatskanie High School in 1943.

Marguerite married Lowell Knutson on Jan. 24, 1944, in Orofino, Idaho. In 1950 they moved to Jewell, where they lived for five years before moving to Gearhart. Marguerite and Lowell separated in 1964. Marguerite then moved to Portland with her two daughters.

She went to work for Spear Beverage Co., where she met Cliff Smith. They were married June 14, 1969, and moved to Gresham. Cliff died of pancreatic cancer on July 23, 1996.

Marguerite enjoyed ceramics, porcelain painting and oil painting. She made many beautiful objects, which she passed on to family and friends. Following the death of her husband, Marguerite worked part-time for her friend and neighbor, who owns Set-N-Me-Free Aloe Vera Co. in Rockwood.

She was preceded in death by her stepson, Jim Smith. Survivors include her daughters, Lola Pollock and Karen Brosseth; and two stepdaughters, Carol Roberts and Nancy Fisher.

James R. York

A much loved husband, father, grandfather and brother, James Richard York, 64 of Kalama WA, known to all as Jim, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. He bravely confronted and fought cancer. He was born on May 10, 1948 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Russell and Dorothy (Phariss) York. He graduated in 1966 from Loveland High School in Loveland, Colorado and served as a medical corpsman in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam-era. He married Linda Reinders on May 1, 1971 in Lakewood, Colorado. Between 1991 and 2001 Jim owned and operated Jim York Construction Inc., building Burger King Restaurants throughout the Northwest. He was a member of the Kalama Krazy Kruisers car club and the Moose Lodge. Jim loved spending time with his family, classic cars (including his prized 1965 Chevy SS), camping, talking politics, woodworking and was an avid Denver Broncos and Washington Huskies fan.

Jim is survived by his wife Linda York of Kalama WA; daughter Amy Salsberry (Chris) of Fredericksburg VA; son Ryan York (Heidi) of Seattle WA; and brothers Russell York of Jackson MS and Gary York of Loveland CO. He was the adored “Papa” to grandchildren Hayley Salsberry, Gillian Salsberry, Alexander York and Greta York and a cherished friend to many. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd in Gresham, Oregon.
