Gary R. Robb

Troutdale resident Gary R. Robb died Thursday, June 13, after an acute illness. He was 63.

A private memorial will be arranged.

Gary was born in Watertown, S.D., and his family moved to Portland when he was an infant. He graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School.

Gary loved working on his 1968 Chevy, camping in Central Oregon and the companionship of the family’s golden retriever, Sandi.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Pamela Hutcheson; sisters, Karen Keithley and Janet Poppleton; brothers, Don and Dick Robb; and mother, Katherine Sperber.

Donald Van Beebe

Oct. 14, 1982-May 31, 2013

Former Gresham resident Donald “Don Mega” Van Beebe died Friday, May 31. He was 30.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Gresham Memorial Chapel, 257 S.E. Roberts Ave.

Donald was born Oct. 14, 1982, in Portland. He attended Barlow High School.

Gresham Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Donald Place

Gresham resident Donald Place died Tuesday, May 28. He was 85.

A celebration of life will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 23, at the Troutdale House, 411 E. Historic Columbia River Highway.

Donald was born June 23, 1927, in Iowa to Earl and Hazel Place. He grew up in Shellrock, Iowa, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Donald married Barbara Ann Madsen in December 1947 in Gresham. He worked as a carpenter, helping build Mt. Hood Community College, Barlow High School and the Sam Jackson and Marquam bridges.

Donald raised quarter horses and served as a judge for youth horse shows. Don was also a 4-H Horse Club Leader for many years in East County. He was an avid sports fan.

Donald is survived by his wife; children, Ron Place, Claudia Place and Karen Curry; sisters, Delores Krai, Evelyn Elliott and Dianne Nagen; and “his buddy” granddaughter, Stacie Curry.

Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Big Star Ranch Therapeutic Riding Stables of Beavercreek.

Rodger Morley Huff

Rodger Morley Huff

Rodger Morley Huff went home to be with his Lord on June 17th.

He was born in Portland, Oregon on October 24, 1936. Rodger attended Franklin High School where he played football, baseball, and basketball and walked the halls looking unabashedly cool.

Rodger married Sally Pingnee on June 21, 1958. They made their home in Gresham, Oregon, where they raised three children.

Rodger loved his country and served in the US Navy. Rodger’s family and friends have countless memories of games, ocean visits, travels, and celebration. Every activity was infused with his wisdom, strength, love, and laughter. He leaves a legacy of zest and gumption.

Deeply cherished by his family, Rodger is survived by his loving wife Sally; daughter Wendee Huff Archer, son-in-law Timothy Archer, and son Daniel Huff. Grandchildren Lauren Archer Womack, J. Scott Womack, Nathan Archer, Zachary Archer, Spencer Huff and Mitchell Huff. Great-grandsons Archer, Zane, and Judah Womack. Brother Gary Huff, sister-in-law Elizabeth Huff. And other special extended family. Rodger was preceded in death by his daughter Merilee Ann Huff in 1979.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 22nd at 11:00 A.M.
