Helen Esther Linhart

Longtime Boring resident Helen Esther Linhart died Tuesday, July 30. She was 75.

A service is not planned at this time.

Helen was born Jan. 30, 1938, in Bridgeport, Ill., to Donald and Audrey O’Dell. She was raised and educated in Illinois, California and Idaho.

Helen married Donald Linhart on June 18, 1955, in Redondo Beach, Calif. They began their family in Gardena, Calif., in 1956 before moving to Oregon in 1959.

Helen drove 18 years for school bus services in the Gresham-Barlow School District. She enjoyed camping, gardening, sewing, crafting, cooking, singing in the church choir and studying the Bible with a women’s group at Good Shepherd Community Church.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1998. She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Revel, Brenda Kraft and Ava Linhart; son, Russell Linhart; brother, Donald O’Dell; sister, Rozanna Taylor; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Gresham Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Julie Elaine Bieler (Hinkle)

May 12, 1953-Aug. 19, 2013

Eagle Creek resident Julie Elaine Bieler (Hinkle) died Monday, Aug. 19. She was 60.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at Bateman Carroll. As a tribute to Julie, the family requests guests wear purple, one of her favorite colors.

Julie was born May 12, 1953, in Long Beach, Calif. She attended Estacada High School and graduated from Gresham High School in 1971. Later, she earned her degree in court reporting.

On May 25, 1985, Julie married Donald Bieler in Redland. She worked in interior home design, excelling at numerous crafts, designing scrapbooks for loved ones and donating handmade hats and scarves to homeless people.

Julie was a breast cancer survivor who loved to make others happy and was generous with her time and talents. She loved color, bangle bracelets and getting her hair and nails done.

Julie is survived by her husband; daughter, Ereka Anderson; son, Patrick Davis; brothers, Larry Gabriel and Randy Hinkle; sister, Kym O’Neill; and five grandchildren.

Bateman Carroll is handling arrangements. Contributions may be made to Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Richard A. Spain

Aug. 30, 1935-July 31, 2013

East County resident Richard A. Spain died Wednesday, July 31. He was 77.

A service is not planned at this time.

Richard was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Baker, to Harlen and Dorothy Spain. He attended Benson High School and served in the Air National Guard.

Richard lived in Gresham for 20 years with his family. In 2002, he retired and moved to Portland.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Spain; daughter, Denice Spain; and son, Darren Spain.

Donald Raymond Tonagel

Donald Raymond Tonagel

Don was born November 9, 1928 in La Porte, Indiana to Cecil and Ruby Tonagel. Don was raised in Ainsworth Indiana and graduated from Merrillville High School in 1946. He served in the USMC and fought in WW2 until he was honorably discharged in 1948. He co-owned an auto garage shop when he met Rosalie and they were married September 22, 1951. They lived in Crown Point, IN, Syracuse NY, and Racine WI before settling in the Pacific NW in 1960. Don was a fluid power engineer until he retired in 1997. He was a lifetime member if the MT Hood Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and the Woodburn Christian Church.

Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rosalie, son Dale (Linda) of Monmouth, daughter Dar (Steve) of Fairview, sister Carole (Dale) Cobble of Hobart, IN, Grandchildren: Brandi (Don) Taylor of Monmouth, Josh Muma of Gresham, Jessica (Jeremy) Fitzgerald of Canaan ME, Jeremy (Rachel) Muma of Gresham, Joanna (Michael) Gunderson of Corvallis and 5 great grandchildren, Kristin, Kyle & Kolby Taylor and Julia & Joshua Fitzgerald.

A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM Wednesday August 28th at Woodburn Christian Church 126 Workman Drive Woodburn Oregon.

Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Meridian Park Hospital, Orthopedics & Replacements.

George William James

George William James

George William James, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 20th, at his home in Gresham after a battle with cancer. George was born on July 19th, 1941 in Pocatello, Idaho. George is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Bonnie James. His siblings Donna, Wayne, and Wendell. His children Jeanni, Chris, Senja, Sally, Ryan, Sarah, Paul, SueAnn, and ten grandchildren. He worked in the banking business for over 40 years. George, a community leader was actively involved Gresham Kiwanis, Rotary Club, and Snow Cap. He served on the Board of Directors for the Gresham Chamber of Commerce. George was also the treasurer of the Pacific NW Cat Fanciers Association and member of several local cat clubs. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 31st, 2-6pm, 20651 S. Tranquility Lane, Oregon City, 97045.
