Ronald C. Hodgkins

Portland resident Ronald C. Hodgkins died Saturday, Aug. 17. He was 65.

No services are planned at this time.

Ronald was born March 5, 1948, in Minnesota to George and Bernice Hodgkins. He was a member of the White Earth Reservation Chippewa Tribe.

Ronald worked as a welder for more than 30 years. He was very proud of his Native American heritage and loved being out in nature.

He is survived by many close friends.

Michael J. Ford

June 2, 1963-Aug. 13, 2013

East County resident Michael J. Ford died Tuesday, Aug. 13. He was 50.

A recitation of the Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Gresham. A memorial Mass will follow at 11 a.m.

Michael was born June 2, 1963, in Salem to Gerard and Phyllis Ford. He received his associate degree from Chemeketa Community College in electronics design and engineering.

Michael worked as a mechanical technician and in heavy equipment repair and operation as part of the Laborers International Union.

He loved Volkswagens and could build them from the ground up.

He was preceeded in death by his brother Steven. He is survived by his parents; and siblings, Janet, Karen, Gregory and David.

Craig Steven Feldman

June 19, 1961-Aug. 22, 2013

East County resident Craig Steven Feldman died Thursday, Aug. 22. He was 52.

Yvonne Heriford

June 19,1930-Aug. 21, 2013

Gresham resident Yvonne Heriford, 83, died Wednesday, Aug. 21.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Easthill Youth Center, 50 N.W. Fifth Ave. in Gresham.

Yvonne was born June 19, 1930, in Stirling City, Calif., to Martin and Ruth (Williams) Engebretsen. She graduated from Canyonville Bible Academy in 1948.

After becoming a licensed nurse, she studied at Southwestern Bible Institute. She completed an associate of arts degree in early childhood education from American River College in 1990, working as a nurse and teacher.

Yvonne had three children with her first husband, V.R. Patterson, who died in 1995. She married Kenneth Heriford in 1992 and retired with him, volunteering for East Hill Church and other organizations.

Survivors include her husband; brother, Martin Engebretsen; sister, Emily Hale; son, Boyd Patterson; daughters, Deanna Thacker, Lorinda Helzerman, Carolyn Doyle, Janet Jones and Cristie Amaral; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

JoAnn Sprengel

Dec. 4, 1946-Aug. 3, 2013

JoAnn Sprengel of Gresham died unexpectedly of a massive heart attack Saturday, Aug. 3, at the age of 66. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at Holgate Baptist Church, Southeast 112th Avenue and Holgate Street in Portland.

JoAnn was born Dec. 4, 1946, in Shelby, Mich. She is survived by her daughter, Teri Jones-McKinney; three grandchildren, Amber, Austin and Chaz; and her beloved cat, Smokey.

Donald H. McDowell

Donald H. McDowell

Don enjoyed hiking, classical music and his cats. He was hiking in the Columbia Gorge when he fell and suffered a brain injury that resulted in his death. His family will remember him for his sense of humor and his ability as a captivating storyteller.

Gresham residents since 1973, Don and his wife Carol recently celebrated 40 years of marriage. He has one sister, Donna McDowell of Vancouver, WA; nieces Christi Kunze of Vancouver, WA, and Kimberly Hodgin of Beaverton; and grandnieces Mercedes, Rachel, Ellie & Cleo.

Born in San Diego to Donald E. and Bonny McDowell, Don’s childhood was lived in California, Guam, Japan and Virginia. The family moved many times because Don’s Dad was in the Navy. Don graduated from Sunset High School in Beaverton (1965); served in the U.S. Army in Germany (1966-68), received an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement from Portland Community College (1972), graduated with a BA from University of Portland (1974), and earned a Masters of Education from University of Portland (1975). His favorite careers included transportation planner & mental health counselor.

A private military ceremony was held at Willamette National Cemetery.
