Experience living history at Reynolds

Reynolds High School students are hosting their annual Living History Day on Friday, Nov. 8, and expect to welcome more than 400 veterans.

This year’s honorees include eight Bataan Death March survivors; Vietnam veteran Jerry Murray, who has been awarded two Silver Stars; and Alter Wiener, a Holocaust survivor and published author.

The schedule is as follows:

• 8:30-9:15 a.m. — Veteran registration (multipurpose room).

• 9:40-10:25 a.m. — First speaker session (classrooms).

• 10:30-11:15 a.m. — Second speaker session (classrooms).

• 11:25 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. — Veterans Lunch (multipurpose room).

• 12:45-2:10 p.m. — Assembly of Honor (West Gym).

Eat lunch and learn

Mt. Hood Community College has been selected as the site for a series of Lunch & Learn Conversations, a series of conversations pertinent to people's daily lives and the future of Oregon.

Three conversations have been planned for November and December, with more to come in 2014. All conversations are noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Jazz Café, Room AC2059, at 26000 S.E. Stark St. All events are free and open to the public and parking is free on all MHCC campuses, no permit required.

A conversation with Courtney Campbell, Hundere endowed chair in Religion and Culture and a professor in the School of History, Philosophy and Religion at Oregon State University.

Nov. 7, White Out? The Future of Racial Diversity in Oregon

Dec. 5, Beyond Bars: Rethinking Our Reliance on Prisons

A conversation with Wallidah Imarisha, a founder of the Human Rights Coalition.
