Churches offer special services to mark Lent
The following East County churches will offer special services to observe the Christian season of fasting and penance called Lent, which precedes the celebration of Easter Sunday, April 8.
St. Luke Episcopal Church, 120 S.W. Towle Ave.
Members of St Luke's congregation along with the Rev. Jennifer Creswell will offer blessings and ashes to the community at the MAX station next to Gresham City Hall, 1333 N.W. Eastman Parkway, at 7 a.m. on Ash Wednesday, Wednesday, Feb. 22.
There will be a special Ash Wednesday service at St. Luke at 5:30 p.m. The service is also open to all.

Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 11560 S.E. Market St.
Shrove Tuesday, Feb. 21: Pancake supper and worship from 5-7 p.m.
Ash Wednesday, Feb. 22: Imposition of ashes at two services, one at noon and one at 7:15 p.m.
On the following Wednesdays in Lent - Feb. 29, March 4, 11, 18 and 25 - the church offers two services, both with soup and bread, the first at noon, and the second at 6:30 p.m., which precedes the 7:15 p.m. service.

Ash Wednesday Masses will be celebrated at noon and 7:30 p.m. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated from 11 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Sunday, April 1: Rich Robinson of Jews for Jesus will speak at 6 p.m. about Passover and then lead the congregation in the Lord's Supper celebration.
The goal is to help people understand the significance of the Jewish Passover and its fulfillment in Jesus Christ.
