Bank reports second quarter earnings

Riverview Bancorp announced a net income of $341,000 for the second fiscal quarter ending Sept. 30, and while it’s a change from the earnings during the second quarter in 2012, the company made steady progress in reducing the level of problem assets.

Net charge-offs (debts unlikely to be recovered) for the second quarter of 2013 totaled $1,000, as opposed to $1.3 million for the same time last year. The bank saw a 14.2 percent decrease in nonperforming assets, with core deposits accounting for 96 percent of total deposits.

“Our second quarter profits are a result of our improved credit quality metrics and sound capital ratios, making Riverview profitable for the fifth consecutive quarter,” said Riverview chairman and CEO Pat Sheaffer.

The Vancouver, Wash.-based Riverview Bancorp is the parent company for Riverview Community Bank. The company operates 13 branches in the Portland-metro area, including offices in Gresham and Wood Village. For more information, visit RiverviewBank.com.

Local businesswoman honored with award

Melody Lowe-Spieler, owner of Enviro Clean Equipment in Gresham, was named the Key4Women’s Achieve Award winner during the annual Key4Women Forum on Oct. 8.

The national program, sponsored by KeyBank, recognizes successful women business owners and leaders who have demonstrated entrepreneurial and community spirit, financial and management leadership and the ability to meet and overcome challenges.

Lowe-Spieler and her husband, Brad, founded Enviro Clean in 1995 to sell, retrofit and repair large vacuum and service trucks and street-sweeping equipment. After her husband’s death in 2005, Lowe-Spieler took over the company and within eight years had moved the operation from her garage to a 9,000-square-foot facility. She also doubled both her workforce and net worth.
