The Corbett Performing Arts Club is staging Cole Porter’s comedic musical “Anything Goes,” opening at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, in Corbett’s Multipurpose Room.

With a cast of more than 50 students, ages 4 through 18, the play is directed by Katherine Ziemann, with band direction by Corbett High School senior Noah Baxter.

Set aboard an ocean liner, the musical centers on the comical antics and love triangles among passengers.

For Clara Gorman, a Corbett High School senior, the production is a perfect cap to her Corbett theater career.

An actress from an early age, Gorman, who plays the back-up angel Chastity, performed as an angel in an earlier production of “Anything Goes.”

“It’s like coming full circle,” Gorman said. “This was one of my first productions, and now it will be one of my last. … I’m pretty serious in real life, so this was a helpful play to bring out the fun side, energy and laughter.”

Simon Leone, 11, a sixth-grader at Corbett Arts Program with Spanish, said he enjoys playing a child the most of his three roles.

“We get to have fun and run around,” he said.

For Aaron Logan, a Corbett High senior, his role as Evelyn was a huge change from the signature role in “Bye Bye Birdie.”

“It’s a huge contrast to anything I’ve done before — he’s a proper, controlled character. It helped me learn a lot and stretch my comfort zone,” Logan said.

Corbett High senior Stacey Pulliam, who plays the nightclub swinger Reno Sweeney, said she hopes audiences take away an “uplifting happiness.”

“It’s a happy comedy with a feel-good ending,” Pulliam said.

Productions are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, and Thursday, April 17, and 1 and 7 p.m. Saturdays, April 12 and April 19.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for children and seniors and free for children age 4 and younger. The theater accepts cash and checks.
