Women in Trades Career Fair coming this week

The largest nontraditional career fair of its kind, the Women in the Trades Career Fair, is put on by Oregon Tradeswomen Inc.

The fair includes a middle school day from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, and a high school day 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 9.

The careers for women day will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at 16021 Airport Way, at the National Electrical Contractors Association and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Training Center.

By attracting more women to the trades, organizers and participants aim to address the imminent gap in the labor force that will be created following record levels of upcoming retirements of skilled trades workers.

Centennial schedules budget workshop

Centennial School District Superintendent Sam Breyer will hold a community workshop on the budget from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, in the community room at Centennial High School.

During the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to weigh in on the proposed budget.

This is the first time since the 2007-08 school year that the district can consider additions to the budget.

Centennial High School is at 3505 S.E. 182nd Ave., Gresham.

Schoolhouse rock, live

The Reynolds Middle School Department of Theatre is presenting “Schoolhouse Rock Live!,” a musical production “that’s a-little-bit-silly and a-lot-of-bit-fun.”

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 9, and 2 and 6 p.m. Saturday, May 10, in the middle school’s Lancer Theater, 1200 N.E. 201st Ave., Fairview.

Admission for all three performances will be “pay what you can” or one nonperishable food donation per person.

The food donations will be used to help stock the school’s community food pantry.
