Mt. Hood Community College and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, in association with the Gates Millennium Scholars program, will host the Youth Bridge Builder Conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28.
The conference's goal is to address the need to increase high school graduation rates and college enrollment among Latino males. The conference is free and open to the public and will be held on the Gresham campus, 26000 S.E. Stark St.
Mt. Hood will be the first community college to host a Youth Bridge Builder Conference in the Pacific Northwest. This is of particular importance given the high percentage of Latino students who start their post-secondary studies at community colleges. Conference participants will experience a college atmosphere and leave with an understanding that the path to college is possible.
Latino males in grades eight through 11 are encouraged to attend the conference, which will feature workshops focused on careers ranging from engineering to nursing, as well as information on preparing for college and scholarship opportunities.
In addition, there will be parent sessions focused on student success and planning for college.
Registration is required and lunch will be provided. Register online at mhccyouthbridgebuilder-auto.eventbrite.com. Parking is free during the conference.
