Rockwood United Methodist to host concert Sunday

Rockwood United Methodist Church, 17805 S.E. Stark St., will host a free 'Afternoon in Music' at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 29.

Musicians Chrisler Hodge, Yvette Smith, Kamal Smith, Frances Fuh and Lonnie Clester will perform contemporary vocal and instrumental music as well as other types. Donations will be collected to benefit the church's summer camping program for children.

The church also will host its annual spring tea Saturday, May 5. Doors open at 1:15 p.m., and tea service begins at 2 p.m. Michelle Thomas, a master gardener and member of the Portland Rose Society, will speak about flowering plants.

Baked goods and Rada knives will be on sale. Admission is $9, and proceeds will benefit the children's camping program.

Methodists to celebrate remodeled sanctuary

Gresham United Methodist Church, 620 N.W. Eighth Ave., will host an open house during 9:30 and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday, April 29, to mark the congregation's move into its remodeled sanctuary.

Church members have been meeting in the basement since last November. The estate of florist John 'Jack' Malcom, who died in 2009, helped fund the remodeling. Malcom left $200,000 to the church, which was one of several local organizations that benefited from his largesse.

St. Luke Church to mark World Labyrinth Day

St. Luke Episcopal Church, 120 S.W. Towle Ave., will mark World Labyrinth Day at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5.

The theme is 'Walk as One at One,' and participants will unite with walkers all over the world walking labyrinths in each time zone at 1 p.m.

Folks can walk in St. Luke's Community Labyrinth Garden, have some tea and snacks and obtain a brochure directory for other labyrinths in the city that are open as well.

HED Church to host organist concert May 6

Douglas Schneider, organist at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland, will perform a concert with other local musicians in the 'Pipes-Pizza-Pizzazz' show at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 6, in Trinity Lutheran Church, 507 W. Powell Blvd.

The show is free and open to the public, but free tickets are needed for pizza.

HED Smith Memorial to host luncheon April 26

Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2420 Fairview Ave., Fairview, will host its spring luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26.

Cost is $8, and proceeds will benefit the church and community charities. Attendees are encouraged to wear spring hats.

The luncheon will feature baked goods, crafts and plants for sale.
