Columbian Garden Club hosts annual holiday wreath-making fundraiser

The Columbian Garden Club is hosting its annual holiday wreath sale and fundraiser Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22-23, at the Corbett Fire Hall.

All proceeds go to fund the garden club’s numerous community service projects.

Garden Club members are already hard at work gathering their wreath-making materials.

by: CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: COLUMBIAN GARDEN CLUB - Swags are also $18. “We really go all out,” said Debra Lowry, club member and holiday fundraiser chairwoman.

The wreaths, made with noble fir branches and pinecones from a local tree farm on Larch Mountain and adorned with speciality greens from Garden Club members’ own gardens, run $18 each.

Noble fir swags also are available for the same price.

“They’re beautiful. Much more beautiful than something you would just go buy at the store,” said Lowry, a

Latourrell Falls resident who joined the garden club in 2005.

Lowry says the wreaths don’t have that artificial cookie-cutter look.

The women and two men of the garden club enjoy bundling and decorating each one by hand.

“Depending on who’s bundling, they all have their different personalities,” she said. “No two are alike.”

If you’d like to order a wreath (or more), call Lowry directly at 503-693-2698.

All wreath purchases need to be pre-ordered, she said.

Customers can expect to pick up their orders Saturday, Nov. 23, she said. They will be notified what time.

The holiday wreath sale is one of the two fundraisers the Columbian Garden Club puts on each year.

Proceeds go to the club-sponsored Edie Faught Columbian Garden Clup Scholarship as well as donations to 4-H programs, Head Start, Blue Star Memorials, national cemeteries, Corbett Fire Hall, Vista House, Columbia Grange and the Oregon Garden.

Club projects also include community gardens and landscaping at the Corbett School District, historic Springdale School, Corbett Post Office and the Blue Star Memorial highway marker at Multnomah Falls.

The garden club, which meets at 10 a.m. every second Wednesday of the month at the Corbett Fire Hall, hosts its annual plant sale in April.

If you like plants, expect to see an eclectic array of native and exotic plants and flowers from members’ own greenhouses and gardens.

The Corbett Fire Hall is at 36930 Historic Columbia River Highway.
