Raiders climb into first place

MHC BASEBALL - Late scoring spurt carries Reynolds to win in the series opener Monday
by: David Ball, Raiders relief pitcher Tom Albers gave up one hit and struck out three, while shutting out Gresham over the final 2 2/3 innings Monday.

Both teams had the top of the order due up late in a tight ballgame during Monday's battle for first place in Mount Hood Conference baseball. The Reynolds hitters delivered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, while Gresham was sent down 1-2-3 in the top of the sixth. The result - Reynolds wins 11-7 knocking the Gophers from the top of the heap for the first time this season.

The Reynolds rally started simply enough with Alec Dehnert drew a lead-off walk, prompting a change in pitchers. The Raiders went on to load the bases with no one out before Scott Weidlich ripped a two-run double down the left-field line to tie the score 7-7.

'We got a couple guys on and knew we needed to bring them home, especially in a close game,' Weidlich said.
