MHC SOFTBALL - Centennial gets first hit and winning run in 8th inning
PORTLAND - Centennial's softball team took a big step toward securing a state playoff berth with a 1-0 extra-inning win over first-place Central Catholic on Friday.
Katie Walker had a big game for the Eagles, producing the team's first hit with a double to left field to start the eighth inning. Chelsey Miller knocked a sacrifice fly into the grass to move pinch-runner Niki Misenhimer to third base, and with two outs Bailey Ritschard sent a bouncer through the middle to bring in the day's only run.
The Eagles had a few chances earlier in the game after drawing five walks and having four batters hit by pitches, but the team stranded runners at third base three times.
