Barlow scores three late runs to beat Eagles

The Bruins go-ahead run comes in on a missed call in the fifth inning
by: David Ball, Barlow pitcher Abbie Bergerson winds up for a delivery during her complete-game effort in Thursday’s 5-3 win to end the regular season.

Barlow's softball team relied on a big bash, a little luck and a lot of hustle to end the regular season with a 5-3 win over Centennial on Thursday, pushing the Bruins over the .500 mark in league.

Barlow trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Danielle Riepma provided the big bash with a lead-off home run that quickly cleared the center-field fence.

'The way it came off my bat just felt really good, and I kind of knew it was going out,' Riepma said.

The Bruins scored the go-ahead run with a little bit of luck later in the inning when Jessica Sauvola squared to bunt with runners at second and third. The ball came off her bat and took a big hop in front of the plate, crawling up Sauvola's jersey as she took off down the first-base line.

Nothing was called, and teammate Asya Shearer came home in a cloud of dust for a 4-3 lead.
