TRACK AND FIELD - The Gresham High standout has five of the day's best six marks

Gresham High's Haley Crouser won the javelin Friday at the U.S. Junior Nationals track and field meet in Bloomington, Ind.

She went 48.17 meters on her first attempt and never trailed in the competition. Crouser's best throw came on her fifth trip down the runway when she launched the spear 50.79 meters.

She claimed five of the top six marks on the day and for her full series (six throws) she finished a collective 60 feet ahead of runner-up Brianna Bain of Stanford.

She will compete at the Junior World Championships next month in Barcelona and is also scheduled to take part in the U.S. Olympic Trials, which begin next weekend in Eugene.
