Mexico manager suspended for two games

Fernando Rios violates Little League rule requiring every player to see action

The manager for the Mexico Region all-stars, Fernando Rios, barely had time to celebrate his team's 4-3 win over Japan today before learning that his stay at the Little League World Series was likely over, as well.

Little League suspended Rios for the next two games (the remainder of the elimination bracket) after his team was found in violation of the mandatory play rule, which requires each player in the lineup to for at least one at-bat and in the field for three consecutive outs.

Rios will be allowed to coach practice sessions during the week, but will not be allowed on the field on game day. His suspension would be complete in time for the weekend if the Mexico team advances to Saturday’s International final.
