The Mount Hood Conference volleyball season opened with a wild one Thursday night at Barlow where Reynolds knocked off the host Bruins in five games.

Reynolds gained the upper hand early in the final set when Kadyn Jones, a freshman, opened the rotation with a four-point spurt.

“In that quick 15-point game, it’s so important to get those first five points, those first 10 points,” Reynolds coach Debbie Swoboda said. “We focus in on those small steps it takes to get to 15.”

Barlow battled back to tie the score at 11-11 when Maddie Pernich rose above the net for a quick kill shot out of the middle.

But the Bruins were not able to pull into the lead.

Reynolds forced match point when Brenna Huwe won a duel in the middle of the net.

Two points later, she ended the night with a tip shot into Barlow’s front row. The Bruins’ Danelle Woodcock made a diving attempt, keeping the ball in the air only to see it squirt six inches wide of the far sideline.

Reynolds won the match 25-18, 20-25, 13-25, 25-15, 15-13.
