David Douglas and Barlow play to a scoreless draw for the second time this season
For the second time this season, Barlow and David Douglas took to the field and neither side could wrinkle the net settling for a 0-0 draw Thursday night.
Both sides had their chances with David Douglas goalie Oscar Torres-Rodriguez blocking a penalty shot in the first half, and the Scots just missing the mark on a flurry of shots over the final five minutes.
I thought wed get one there at the end, Scots coach Logan Marquardt said. We kept pushing for it, but a shot would go a little wide or we just couldnt quite connect on a run.
Douglas had a final chance as the game announcer started a 10-second countdown. Jesus Mejia dribbled around a crowd of defenders near the top of the 18-yard box before sending a roller ahead in the direction of teammate Victor Sanchez, who was open near the near post. But the duo was unable to connect, and the ball squirted past the end line as the final ticks went off the scoreboard.
Centennial tied Gresham 1-1 on Thursday, leaving a logjam of teams trying to punch tickets into the 6A state bracket.
Only two points separate David Douglas, Centennial and Barlow in the league ladder, heading into the final week of the regular season. The top two out of that group will gain automatic playoff berths, while the bottom team will need to win a play-in qualifier.
