Danelle Woodcock ends the night with a five-point service run

by: THE OUTLOOK: DAVID BALL - Barlows Madi Gardner celebrates after burying a kill on the other side Tuesday night.

Barlow’s volleyball team pulled off a rare feat Tuesday night by claiming a three-set victory over Gresham — the first league sweep in the rivalry series since 2009.

The victory also allowed the Bruins to finish the regular season tied with the Gophers for second place in the Mount Hood Conference.

“I’m very happy with the way we competed,” Barlow coach Jessie Camp said. “The girls stepped up to a different level tonight and finished each game.”

The Bruins highlighted the night with a 26-24 win in a second set that saw seven lead changes. Barlow fought off game point on a Kassy Tuma kill to the back corner, and closed out the set on an ace by Brynna Dougharity — a ball that hit a Gresham player high on the arms and rolled over her shoulder for the point.

Both teams have locked up berths in the 6A playoffs, which begin next Wednesday. If the RPI rankings were frozen today, Gresham would earn a No. 2 seed and Barlow would be a No. 3.
