Cardinals will face Creswell to open the 3A tournament Friday.

CORBETT — Corbett’s volleyball team enters the state playoffs as the top ranked team at the 3A level, and the Cardinals showed why Saturday by doubling up visiting Lakeview in all three sets to score a quick first-round sweep.

The only challenge came in the early stages of the third set when the teams traded points and were tied 4-4. But Karina Lees served up a five-point run that included a pair of aces to give Corbett separation on the scoreboard.

Corbett outscored Lakeview 75-30 for the match.

The Cardinals take on Creswell in the 3A quarterfinals at 8 a.m. Friday with Lewis & Clark League foe Valley Catholic sitting in the bracket as a likely semifinal opponent Friday night.

Lane Community College in Eugene hosts the 3A tournament.

“All the rankings and records are out the window at this point,” Corbett coach Angela Davis said. “You just go out and compete with the team on the other side of the net.”

In other small-school action, Portland Lutheran advanced to the 1A tournament in Redmond with a 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 sweep at McKenzie on Saturday.
