The Eagles put up two early goals and never trail in 3-1 win over Central Catholic

by: THE OUTLOOK: DAVID BALL - Centennials Lauren Lowrey charges in to stop a Central Catholic forward during the second half of Thursday nights 3-1 home win.The Centennial girls soccer team scored a 3-1 win over defending Mount Hood Conference champ Central Catholic on Thursday night.

The Eagles carried a 2-1 lead into the intermission and put the match out of reach in the 53rd minute when Iliana Garcia made a steal deep in the Rams zone and crossed a perfect ball to the front of the goal. Teammate Lani Saechin was on the receiving end and didn’t waste any time firing a shot past the keeper.

The teams went up and down the field, each creating scoring chances down the stretch, but Centennial’s back line often met Central attackers before they could get a clean shot at the net.

“It was a physical game,” Centennial coach Kelsey Birkhofer said. “But we played solid and had little or no mistakes in the back.”
