Wildcats scratch out a win in battle of top-10 teams
6A BOYS HOOPS - Barlow's late rush comes up a few shots short
Barlow held Westview standout Landen Lucas in check most of the way Friday night, but couldn't overcome a cold spell of its own during a 45-39 loss to the #4-ranked Wildcats.
The Bruins moved ahead early in the second half by running a series of plays directly at the basket, sneaking behind the 6-foot-10 Lucas for a series of easy scores. Barlow tied the score when Kody Kennedy lobbed a perfect pass over the rim and Derek Saling put away the alley-oop softly off the glass.
After seeing Westview missed on an alley-oop attempt at the other end, Barlow rushed downcourt and Saling struck again on the inside to put Barlow up 25-23.
Unfortunately for the Bruins, they would manage only two more baskets over the next 12 minutes. Westview's lead grew to 40-29 with 3:20 to play after Dyrall Goods hit a 15-footer from the elbow.
