COLLEGE BASKETBALL - Mt. Hood CC is alone in first place after beating SW Oregon
by: David Ball Mt. Hood center Spencer Clayton reaches high for a rebound during Saturday’s win over SW Oregon.

Three teams entered Saturday night unbeaten in South Region play, but Mt. Hood CC was the only one to escape unscathed after a convincing 88-76 home win over SW Oregon.

The Saints played with a comfortable lead most of the night, until the Lakers made a charge midway through the second half and pulled to within a single point after Riley Grandinetti drilled a 3 from the right side.

Mt. Hood's Robby Rivers answered with a long ball of his own on the Saints next trip downcourt. Mt. Hood hit three quick baskets and within a minute its lead was back to an eight-point cushion.

SW Oregon saw its shooting go cold down the stretch, and Mt. Hood guarded the rim with tenacity, highlighted by Rei Jensen with two blocked shots. The Lakers went 1-for-14 (.071) in the paint over the final 10 minutes.
