MHC WRESTLING - Lightweight run carries Scots to a big dual win
The David Douglas wrestling team rose to the challenge Thursday night, tossing aside its top challenger in Barlow by a 40-19 score and proving it is the team to beat in the Mount Hood Conference.
The Scots won seven of the first eight bouts, scoring bonus points in each of those victories. Gabriel Peak highlighted with five takedowns in his 126-pound bout. He finished by diving into Colby Winnett's knees with :07 on the clock for his final points that pushed him to an 11-3 major decision - giving the Scots an extra point in the team tally.
'For me it was about staying consistent, always moving and always being in position,' Peak said. 'Most matches are won by the guy who gets the first takedown - that gives you a big upper hand.'
Douglas kept up the pressure with Vagif Afrasov (145) and Elijah Taylor (152) also earning major wins. Taylor converted six takedowns in the third round of his match to earn the team bonus point, while Afrasov had three takedowns in the final 90 seconds of his bout.
