1A GIRLS HOOPS - Late free throw seals the Eagles fate

ST. PAUL - Damascus Christian beat the buzzer in each of the first three quarters Friday night, but didn't get the chance to do it in the fourth during a 41-37 girls basketball playoff loss at #2-ranked St. Paul.

Trailing by eight points with less than two minutes to play, any hopes of a Damascus comeback seemed bleak. But the Eagles mustered some late magic and made it a one-possession game when Ana Wakefield hit a deep 3 from the right side.

Damascus fouled on the ensuing inbounds play, sending St. Paul senior Tessa Brentano to the line with 4.3 seconds on the clock. The Buckaroos kept the door open with 5 for 12 (.417) shooting from the stripe in the final minutes. Brentano had accounted for four of those misses, giving hope to the large contingent of Eagles fans in the far bleachers....
