Centennial falls to Lions in first round

6A GIRLS BASKETBALL - Slow down strategy works early in the game
by: Vern Uyetake Centennial’s Chelsey Miller works through a double team in the paint during the Eagles playoff loss at West Linn on Tuesday night.

In the Three Rivers League, West Linn is used to taking on teams like Oregon City and Clackamas that are gunning to put up 100 points from night to night. In the Lions' playoff opener on Tuesday, they took on Centennial from the Mount Hood Conference, and the Eagles made it clear from the early going that they were going to try and win without breaking 30.

Centennial slowed the game down, taking minutes off the clock on some possessions against the heavily favored Lions, and the tactic worked for a half.

Ultimately, West Linn made the adjustments it needed to, going with a smaller four-guard line-up to put more pressure on the ball and ground out a 45-35 victory at home.
