The Barlow girls pile up first-place points to take the girls meet

by: THE OUTLOOK: DAVID BALL - Greshams Noah Ratliff makes the turn in the backstroke during his runner-up finish in the 200 medley race. The Gresham boys swim team set the tone with a sweep in the day’s first race and went on to score a close 91-79 win over rival Barlow on Thursday.

The Gophers got out of the gates quickly with a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard medley relay, which saw its ‘B’ team finished 2.5 seconds ahead of Barlow’s ‘A’ squad.

Gresham took a 20-point lead into the intermission after Clay Hoffman and Patrick Stauffer combined for a 1-2 finish in the 50 free (25.27) with Stauffer touching in .02 hundredths ahead of Barlow’s lead swimmer Dalton Hembd.

It would be the first of several photo finishes.

Gresham put the dual meet away when Hoffman and Caleb Logsdon scored a 1-2 finish in the backstroke (1:06.28).

Barlow won the girls meet 108-62.
