David Douglas uses relays and a series of runner-up finishes to pile up points

by: THE OUTLOOK: DAVID BALL - David Douglas Alina Bibik pushes off from the wall for the start of the backstroke final. She finished second in the race. The David Douglas girls swim team flooded the pool Saturday to win the Mount Hood Conference district meet going away. The Scots put multiple racers into all but one of the eight individual finals and piled up 371 team points to beat runner-up Barlow by 65.

The Scots only wins came in the 200-and-400-yard freestyle relays, but their team depth overwhelmed everyone else.

David Douglas filled the maximum of three spots in four of Saturday’s finals with Elizabeth Fryer coming out with the best results — a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 free and 500 free.

Centennial rookie Jamie Stone had a record-setting day in the sprints, setting new district marks in the 50 free (23.35) and 100 free (50.72).

Look for expanded meet coverage in our Tuesday, Feb. 18, print edition, and a complete list of placers in our Friday, Feb. 21, edition.
