NWAACC SOFTBALL - Mt. Hood CC overtakes South rivals in extra innings
by: Kris Anderson Mt. Hood pitcher Ashley Devincenzi makes her move toward the plate during the Saints 9-8 extra-inning win over Lower Columbia on Tuesday.

A Lower Columbia home run to leadoff the game, and immediately the Mt. Hood CC softball team was in comeback mode. Things stayed that way until the seventh inning when the Saints tied the score to force extra innings.

In the eighth inning, it was finally their time to lead.

A Red Devils error with two outs allowed a run to score, giving the Saints their first lead and a 9-8 win on Tuesday.

'This program does have a lot of fight in it,' Saints coach Meadow McWhorter said. 'There's a lot of belief in each other and playing as one.'

A one-out single gave the Saints their first baserunner of the eighth inning. Lola Ciu followed with another single, putting the winning run in scoring position. Mai Galusha, though, flied out to left field for the second out of the inning.
