MHC BASEBALL - Gresham breaks the game open in the late innings
by: David Ball Gresham starter Brandon Fast held the Bruins to just two runs through six innings on the mound during Monday’s 7-4 home win.

The bad news for Gresham relief pitcher Travis Blanchard was that he was walking to the mound with the bases loaded and nobody out. The good news was that the Gophers had built a 7-2 cushion, giving the senior some wiggle room as he tried to close out the victory.

'Brandon (Fast) had pitched a great game, but we knew Travis could step into that spot and throw some good strikes,' Gresham coach Jason Krohn said. 'In a situation like that we try to keep the go-ahead run from getting on base.'

Blanchard accomplished that goal, but it wasn't easy.

A fielding error allowed the Bruins to push across one run, and Austin Loders drew a walk to bring in another, cutting the margin to 7-4. But that would turn out to be the final tally, as Barlow couldn't get another ball out of the infield.
