Trevor Bless launched a three-run homer over the center-field scoreboard in the first inning, and Durham Sundberg sent another ball out to lead off the second inning.

The Gophers batted through the lineup in each of the first two innings to build a 9-0 lead, then put the mercy rule into effect when Kai Kiyakawa drew a bases-loaded walk in the third inning.

“We came out with a lot of energy — loose and confident,” Gresham manager Mike Abrahamson said. “We had strong pitching and good defense against a powerhouse hitting team.”

Bless and Sundberg combined on the shutout effort.

Gresham plays the winner of Sheldon vs. Klamath Falls in the second round at 11 a.m. Sunday at Alpenrose Dairy.
