MHC GIRLS TRACK - Blues sweep relays and long jump to claim key dual-meet win
by: David Ball Gresham’s Pearly Walton clears the bar on her way to first place in the high jump.

It was the smallest of mistakes, but it gave Saint Mary's the split-second it needed to steal a dual win 74-71 in Wednesday's battle between Mount Hood Conference girls track contenders.

The mistake came in the day's first race with the team's side-by-side at the halfway point in the 400-meter relay. Saint Mary's got off a clean hand-off, while Gresham struggled with the exchange. The Blues raced to the lead and hit the finish line in 50.18 seconds - .28 hundredths in front. That's the time it takes to click a stopwatch on and off.

Gresham sprinter Ify Onyima tried to make up some of those points by sweeping the sprints, winning the 100 (12.57) and the 200 (25.59).
