MHC GIRLS TENNIS - Central Catholic wins series of three-set bouts in the doubles ladder to stay in hunt
by: David Ball Gresham’s Abby Bryant wins a point at the net during the Gophers 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 loss in No. 2 doubles Friday.

The Gresham girls tennis team picked up a pair of impressive wins at the top of the singles ladder, but couldn't quite break through on the doubles side during a 6-2 loss against Central Catholic on Friday.

Gresham sophomore Jessica Emoto all but guaranteed herself the No. 2 seed heading into the district tournament in two weeks with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 win over Central's Elizabeth Johnson in the top flight singles match.

Trailing late in the first set, Emoto pulled even at 5-5 when she charged down the center line and sent a forehand blast down the sideline, leaving her opponent swinging at air. Emoto broke serve moments later with a flurry of points, sparked with a volley of forehands that quickly opened up a clean winner down the line.
