Led by guard Kacy Childress, Gresham fought off David Douglas for a 49-41 girls basketball win to improve to keep pace in the Mount Hood Conference playoff chase.

David Douglas cut the Gopher lead to 38-32 with two minutes left in the third quarter and then completely shut down almost every Gresham player on the floor.

The one the Scots could not account for was Childress.

Childress singlehandedly carried the Gophers to the finish line. She scored Gresham’s final 11 points, quelling the Scots’ final few attempts at a rally.

Gresham travels to first-place Oregon City on Tuesday before heading to rival Barlow on Friday for a game with playoff implications.
