Motorcyclist dies in collision
Drugs, alcohol and speed do not appear to be factor in fatal Thursday morning accident
A 60-year-old male Bethany motorcyclist was killed in an early Thursday morning collision with a pickup in Hillsboro.
The 51-year-old female truck driver from Aloha was not injured.
Their names were not immediately released.
The collision occurred the intersection of Brookwood Parkway and Northeast Cornell Road. Portions of both streets were closed for hours.
Hillsboro Police, Hillsboro Fire and Rescue, and Metro West Ambulance responded to accident at 7:20 a.m. The preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2003 full size Chevrolet pick up was turning left from northbound Brookwood onto westbound Cornell at a flashing yellow signal as a 2006 Buell motorcycle was traveling southbound on Brookwood through the intersection. The truck struck the motorcycle in the intersection causing life threatening injuries to the motorcycle rider, who was declared dead at the scene.
According to police, the cause of the crash is still under investigation but it appears the pickup driver did not see the motorcyclist, who was wearing protective gear and a helmet. Drugs, alcohol and excessive speed do not appear to be factors in the crash. The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team and Hillsboro police are continuing the investigation.
