Local calendar to raise money

Soroptimist International of Hillsboro is selling a new 2013 calendar featuring pictures taken by a local photographer to raise money for the organization’s scholarships, Women Opportunity Awards, and domestic violence and awareness programs.

The pictures are taken by Soroptimist International of Hillsboro member Pamela Brown Wilkinson, owner of Natural Expressions Photography. The calendar was designed by Wilkinson and SIH member Carol Davis, owner of Hillsboro Quick Print, along with Davis’ husband, Gary.

The calendars are $15 each at Award Specialties, 370 S.E. Fourth Ave.

Soroptimist is an international women organization working to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and around the world.

The Hillsboro club is celebrating 32 years serving Washington County.

Household recycling event planned

The Century High School Girls Basketball teams will host a household recycling event in Hillsboro on Saturday, Nov. 10.

It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Century High School, 25000 S.E. Century Blvd. A $10 donation per car is requested.

Recycling services will be provided by EG Metals, an environmental technologies company headquartered in Hillsboro.

A wide range of electronics, appliances, plastics, metals and paper products will be accepted.

Disposal fees ranging from $5 to $15 will be applied to TV sets and computer monitors.

Items that are not acceptable include garbage, yard debris, vehicle fluid, light bulbs, styrofoam, dirty plastic, latex, cereal box liners and chip bags.
