NetApp opens data center today

NetApp is opening its new data center in Hillsboro on Friday, Nov. 2.

The facility will be the hub for all of the company’s global customer support monitoring and corporate IT services. All future NetApp business applications will be built there, and all existing business applications that are internally hosted will be moved to it during the next three years.

The new data center is on 5.1 acres at 3825 N.W. Aloclek Place, that the company is leasing for 10 years. It expects to invest another $40 million in equipment and employ around10 people there.

The facility is one of several data centers that have opened or are under construction in Hillsboro in recent years.

Economic development manager honored

Sarah Garrison, Hillsboro’s economic development manager, was named the Economic Development Leader of the Year by the Oregon Economic Development Association at the fall conference.

Among other things, the honor recognizes Garrison’s work recruiting and assisting the expansion of such major companies as Genentech, SolarWorld, TriQuint Semiconductor, Adobe and Digital Reality Trust.

“Sarah is a valued member of our economic development team. Her professionalism and dedication to her work has helped improve Hillsboro’s marketability. I’ve said for a long time that happiness begins with a job and Sarah’s efforts have created many jobs in our region,” said Hillsboro Mayor Jerry Willey.

Before Garrison began working for Hillsboro in August 2009, she was a senior business development officer for Oregon’s Economic Development Department (Business Oregon), where she specialized in high-tech industries, including bioscience, semiconductor, solar and wind energy projects.

Prior to that, she worked in the private sector for more than 15 years.
