Know an amazing teacher? An outstanding principal? A custodian or bus driver who’s always going above and beyond?

Now’s the time to nominate them for Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce’s Eighth annual Crystal Apple Awards, which recognizes educators’ excellence in three categories: licensed staff, support staff and administration.

All Hillsboro residents, students, parents and other school employees are invited to nominate any Hillsboro School district employee who “excels in building future leaders of tomorrow.” The deadline for nominations is Jan. 18.

After the nominating packets are reviewed, each nominee will be recognized in his or her school with a surprise ceremony of chamber staff, school staff, and family and friends.

The winners will be announced at the Crystal Apple Banquet, set for Feb. 28.

Last year’s winners include:

Ross Bryant, occupational therapist from Orenco Elementary School

Matt Coleman, sixth grade teacher from Moobery Elementary School

Adam Reese, coach and P.E. teacher from Hillsboro High School

Jayne Baker, custodian from Lenox Elementary School

Kim Higgins, classified Assistant from Tobias Elementary School

Bruce Thompson, bus driver for the Hillsboro School District

Brenda Kephart, director of school improvement

Jon Pede, principal at Jackson Elementary School

Bill Tracy, retired principal at Farmington View Elementary School

Tickets to the Crystal Apple event are $50 per person, with $15 from each ticket benefiting the Hillsboro Schools Foundation. Full tables of 10 are available for $500. Or host a nominee and his/her guests at a table as a friends & family sponsor for $550.
