Hillsboro man escapes injury in wreck
A 19-year old Hillsboro man was somehow able to avoid injury when he lost control of his car and it was head on hit by a pickup truck on I-5 on Thursday.
According to the Oregon State Police, at about 1:10 p.m. on Feb. 21, David Cole, 19, was entering the northbound on ramp to I-5 from Nyberg Road when he lost control of his 1991 Acura Integra. The car crossed all three northbound lanes of I-5 while rotating approximately 190 degrees. It came to a stop facing southbound in the northbound 'A' lane of I-5.
At that moment, a 2011 Ford F-150 pick up, being driven by Eric Lundy, 37, of Portland, was northbound in the 'A' lane. It was unable to avoid colliding with the Acura. The front of the truck ran up and over the car, and the right front wheel assembly came to rest in the windshield of the Acura.
Both vehicles then slid into the median, where they collided with the concrete barrier and came to rest. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and escaped injury.
Excessive speed is considered to be a factor in this collision. no citations were issued at the scene, but the investigation is continuing, with enforcement action still possible.
