Residents living in and around Hillsboro should be prepared for more helicopter flight noise than usual, according to the Port of Portland, which owns and operates the Hillsboro Airport.

As part of annual flight recertification for firefighters, additional training flights using larger than normal helicopters are scheduled at Hillsboro Aviation, the private flight school at the airport.

The additional flights were scheduled to begin March 15 and last through the month of April. Pilots are expected to fly in the Alpha Pattern area east of the airport and the Bravo Pattern area west of the airport. Normal helicopter flight training will be concentrated in the Charlie Pattern area north of the airport.

Most helicopter flight training at Hillsboro Aviation is conducted in small, two-passenger helicopters. The firefighters are training in helicopters about the size of those used by television stations.
