School receive PGE grants

Portland General Electric recently awarded 118 grants totaling $50,600 to nonprofits across Oregon and Washington where PGE employees volunteer.

“We value and recognize the time and energy employees spend helping others in the community,” said Kregg Arntson, PGE community affairs manager.

“These grants provide much-needed support to the organizations our employees care about and are our way of expressing appreciation for employees’ personal commitment and dedication to community service,” Arntson said.

The following Hillsboro nonprofits received grants:

Brookwood Elementary School, $500; Farmington Views Parents for Academic Excellence, $500; Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra, $400; Liberty High School Dance Team, $250; and Reedville Elementary School, $500.

Local students win poster contest

Two students from Ladd Acres Elementary School recently won the Elks eye injury poster contest.

Fourth-grader Lisa Truong won second place at the Hillsboro lodge level, second place in district and third place in state competition.

Her poster will be on display for a year at the Elks Children’s Eye Clinic at Oregon Health & Science University. Her cash prizes total $225.

Sixth-grader Johnny Ngo won first place at the Hillsboro and district levels. He won $175.

The contest is an annual event sponsored by the Oregon State Elks Association in support of the Elks Children’s Eye Clinic at OHSU.
