The public is invited to a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 27, from 1 to 2:15 p.m. at the Washington County Fair Complex in Hillsboro.

Washington County, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will honor military veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The fair complex is located at 873 N.E. 34th Ave.

Highlights of the program will include recognition of Purple Heart recipients and a focus on Washington County’s role in World War II. The names of the 129 county residents who were killed in action in World War II will also be read.

Leaders from the Hillsboro VFW and American Legion, Hillsboro Mayor Jerry Willey and county Board of Commissioners Chairman Andy Duyck will participate. A keynote address is planned by U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici.

Attendees may park in TriMet’s lot at the Fair Complex/Hillsboro Airport MAX Station. For details, call Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services at 503-846-3060.

n At 11 a.m. in Forest View Cemetery, 1611 W. Pacific Ave. in Forest Grove, the local Oregon Army National Guard and American Legion Post No. 2 will co-sponsor a ceremony featuring U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley.

n At 2 p.m., Valley Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 3809 S.E. TV Highway, Hillsboro, will host a pipe and drum band, guest speakers, a vintage car display and a nature trail walk geared to Memorial Day.
