The Cornelius Booster Club recently awarded seven scholarships to graduating seniors from local high schools and named the Cornelius citizen and business of the year.

The club also announced the 2013 community service award winner during the club’s annual awards banquet.

Winners of the $500 scholarships are: Laura Boles, Leisa Boles, Angel Castaneda-Cervantes, Jose Perucho and David O. Jaquez from Forest Grove High School; Noelani Gonzales from Glencoe High School and Angeles Godinez-Valencia from Northwest Academy. All the students live in the city of Cornelius.

Juanita Layton is citizen of the year; Fred Meyer is business of the year and Matt Hawblitzel won the city’s community service award.

Layton is a longtime Booster Club member. Hawblitzel is the local UPS driver and was nominated for his friendly service to the community.
