Hillsboro’s Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center (SHARC) at 953 S.E. Maple Street will close for its annual repair and cleaning break from Tuesday, Sept. 3 through Sunday, Sept. 15.

It will reopen to the public on Monday, Sept. 16.

This annual closure allows the city’s Parks & Recreation Department staff to take care of preventative repairs and thoroughly clean the 43,480-square-foot center.

This year, a variety of improvements will occur, including replacement of the underwater lights with energy efficient LED lights; testing the backflow; resurfacing and refinishing the sauna; replacing the carpeting; cleaning and repairing all workout/cardio equipment; executing needed maintenance on the treadmills, including boards, belts and console repairs; repairing the pool’s mechanical room; and thoroughly cleaning the entire facility.

“We greatly appreciate the community’s patience while we rejuvenate SHARC,” said Hillsboro’s aquatic manager, Paula Rose. “The aquatic and recreation center is enjoyed by more than 230,000 customers each year, and this closure and the work to be performed are necessary to extend the lifespan of the facility.”
