Art class registration open at Hillsboro's Walters Center


The Walters Cultural Arts Center in Hillsboro is offering various music, writing and art classes for all ages this fall. To register, go to hillsboro-oregon.gov/parksrec or call 503-615-3485. For information, go to hillsboro-oregon.gov/WCAC.

Pacific gallery opens its exhibits for

2013-14 season

Works by Kevin Bell and James Bailey will continue through Friday, Sept. 27 at the Kathryn Cawein Gallery on the Pacific University campus in Forest Grove, 2125 College Way.

Gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission to both the exhibit and reception are free.

Kevin Bell grew up in the Pacific Northwest, earned a bachelor of arts in history from Bowdoin College and studied for a master’s degree in environmental studies at Evergreen State College and a master of fine arts from the University of Oregon.

Bell’s paintings are exhibited nationally and internationally, including recent shows in Texas, New York, China, Germany, Korea and British Columbia. He is currently an associate professor at the University of Montana, and is an editor of FATE in Review. He is represented by Gallery Jones in Vancouver, B.C., and Atti Contemporary Art in Toronto, Ontario.

James Bailey holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is currently a professor in the School of Art at the University of Montana.

Bailey has displayed his work in more 200 exhibitions across the United States and abroad, including Estonia, France, China and Canada. His work can be found in numerous collections, including those of the Walker Art Center, New York Public Library, Jundt Art Museum, Boise Art Museum and Hillard University Art Museum.

He also recently appeared in the full length documentary film on printmaking, titled “Midwest Matrix.”
