Duty boosts Special Olympics

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) is teaming up with Red Robin Restaurant at 2660 N.W. 185th Avenue in Hillsboro to raise money for Special Olympics Oregon.

This year’s “Tip a Cop” fundraiser will be Saturday, Oct. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 4 to 8 p.m.

WCSO deputies will become “celebrity servers” and assist in greeting diners to support Special Olympics Oregon.

The public is encouraged to enjoy a good meal and spend time with the deputies.

All tips the deputies receive will go directly to Special Olympics Oregon to help provide training and competition opportunities for athletes with special needs.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office participates in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) program, another effort to raise funds and promote awareness of Special Olympics Oregon.

Funds raised through the Law Enforcement Torch Run program assist Special Olympics Oregon athletes with competing in regional and state competitions, at no charge to the athlete.

Throughout the state of Oregon, more than 5,000 athletes participate in Special Olympics each year.
