Kick off the holiday season and get ready to ring in December with a full day of festivities in downtown Hillsboro Nov. 30.

The annual Hillsboro Holly Days begins at 1 p.m. with a winter wonderland marketplace full of crafts and gifts, food and drinks, hot cocoa and cookies and fresh, local winter produce.

The Jackson Elementary School Choir will perform merry classics from 2 to 2:30 p.m., when the Cornell Estates Retirement & Assisted Living Residence senior choir will take over and sing until 3:30 p.m. Tualatin Valley Harmony Masters will take the stage from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

At 5 p.m., the Oregon Chorale will perform with the tree lighting ceremony to follow at 5:30 p.m.

Throughout the day, families can head to the State Farm ticket station, where attendees can trade a few cans of food or a monetary donation for a ticket to ride the kids’ train. While stopping to shop in the streets, ask local businesses about golden tickets.

Keep an eye out for a main attraction — live reindeer. Santa Claus will visit the city from 2 to 4 p.m., and five of his reindeer will stick around from 1 to 6 p.m. to meet locals.

Kids will have the chance to work on art projects and write letters to Santa from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Outdoors In Park will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. offering the public the chance to explore the full-size indoor playground system for free.

The evening will end with a light show from 5:35 to 6:30 p.m. in the plaza, where attendees will have a chance to participate in the “Symphony of Light.”

Patrick Coen, a freelance Portland animator, will create a light show to fit the architecture of the plaza stairway, where the public can change the colors and speed of the lights. Check out what it’s all about at
